The World’s Biggest Jerk

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Jeffrey Hauser Ive just watched another episode of Dr. Phil where another insensitive clod was cheating on his wife while she was caring for his three kids. He explained how he was feeling neglected and the sex wasnt the same anymore either. Really? What was she thinking putting the baby before him? Couldnt the little sucker wait for her to satisfy her husbands primal needs first, instead on crying to have his diaper changed or be fed? How insensitive of the newborn. Its not just on Dr. Phil. Cheating men are everywhere with all kinds of similar reasons for committing adultery. A few that I can remember are: (a) My wife doesnt look like the hottie she was ten years ago But you do? (b) I need change of scenery Then go on a vacation (c) We dont have enough sex It takes two to tango. (d) She spends too much time with the kids And your responsibility is what again? (e) Shes gained weight I suppose youre the same trim stud as you always were? (f) We never talk anymore Is your mouth sewn shut too? (g) It just happened when we got a new secretary And the new mailmans off limits? (h) We met in a bar and I was drunk When liquors involved, its always acceptable. (i) I dont have an excuse: it just happened Finally, an honest man. Remember why you married in the first place. Wasnt there something about commitment and responsibility? I realize that many woman cheat on their husbands and it works both ways. But this is about men. Ive seen these great looking women with these loser macho men that think theyre Gods gift to other ladies and somehow deserve better. Well, I have a clue for them: they arent and dont. Be thankful for what you have and make it work. Most of these guys dont realize how lucky they are and how many other guys lust after their wives. But, instead, they go trawling around after anything in a skirt, thinking that other woman cant wait to be hit on for a quicky. These shallow men make us all look bad. There are either really stupid when it comes to women or totally misguided. They dont understand the consequences of their actions and figure the whining bitch will always take them back when they come limping home after a failed affair. After all, who else would want the old, fat, kid-rearing, ex-hottie, that doesnt talk much, always looks about the same, and doesnt even give BJs anymore? I wonder why not? Look what our man did to deserve her affections before the affair. If all of this is lost on the men reading this article, I have a final word of advice. Its rarely, if ever, worth a few minutes of sexual pleasure with a stranger when your wife is more than willing to satisfy you. That is, if you are willing to do a minimal amount of loving and caring for her. But if thats too much to ask, then go right on being the worlds biggest jerk. How to Overcome The Holiday Blues and Holiday Depression

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Charles Donovan It is almost cliche to complain about stress and depression during the Holidays. But for many, the Holidays are truely a challenging time to manage stress and anxiety. Those symptoms need to be respected and require good coping techniques. “Holiday blues” range from mild sadness during the holidays to severe depression. Holiday blues can affect both men and women, young and old. Factors contributing to holiday blues include increased stress and fatigue, unrealistic expectations, too much commercialization, and the inability to be with one’s family. The increased demands of shopping, parties, family reunions, and house guests may also contribute to tension and sadness during the holidays. Common stress reactions during the holidays include headaches, excessive drinking, over-eating or not eating enough, and difficulty sleeping. This sadness or depression can be mitigated or prevented, and if its already present, it can be eased. To help prevent holiday blues, try to follow some of these basic tips from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC), the American Psychological Association(APA) and the National Mental Health Association(NMHA). 1. Establish realistic goals and expectations for the holiday season, and do not label the holiday season as a time to cure all past problems. The holidays do not prevent sadness or loneliness 2. No booze or drugs 3. Do not feel obliged to feel festive. Accept your inner experience and do not force yourself to express specific feelings. If attending a Holiday party is stressful for you, learn how to say “No, I am unable to attend. Thank you very much”. While these three simple steps seem straightforward, they could help you to better cope with the many challenges during this time of year. Hopefully, it will make this season happier and more enjoyable for you. Charles Donovan was a patient in the FDA investigational trial of vagus nerve stimulation as a treatment for chronic or recurrent treatment-resistant depression. He was implanted with the vagus nerve stimulator in April of 2001. He chronicles his journey from the grips of depression thanks to vagus nerve stimulation therapy in his book: Out of the Black Hole: The Patient’s Guide to Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Depression His all inclusive book prepares depression sufferers to make an informed decision about this ninety-minute out-patient procedure. It is a “must read” before you discuss this treatment with your psychiatrist. A prescription for the procedure is required from an M.D. and it is covered by most insurance plans. Can I Just Lose Fat from My Legs, Hips, or Just My Stomach?

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Eduardo G. Perez The most common and everlasting question I receive as a personal fitness trainer continues to be based on the myth of spot reduction. The questions tend to be, “Eduardo, show me an exercise to lose my love handles,” Eduardo, I just want to reduce the size of my thighs, Eduardo, I know you said that its not scientifically possible, but can you just give me a couple of exercises to tone my arms? Even though media has done a great job of debunking this myth it still persists. This is such a powerful notion that marketers have taken full advantage of it and invest a minimum of thirty-thousand dollars just to produce an infomercial on stomach and thigh saunas, abdominal machines, and leg toners. Its a pretty large sum that provides four to ten times the return on their initial investment. I must have a sense of moral obligation when I am not joining that extreme money making bandwagon. As a matter of fact, in this brief article on the myth of losing fat from a specific area, I plan on joining the few in the fitness industry that want to inform the consumers on the truth. As Personal Trainer, I consistently answer this question with a NO. The misconception of burning fat from a specific area of the body has been proven by research that it is false. Of course, if I am going to tell you that science has proved it false, I made sure to do my homework and dig up three studies that illustrate how flawed spot reduction is as a runner up to an urban myth. The first study I want to illustrate will answer the questions of I just want to lose fat from my stomach, can I just do crunches? In 1984, Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport reported that thirteen males did a total of 5000 sit-ups in 27 days. Biopsies of the subjects fat cells were used to measure the change in fat cell diameter. The results showed that the subjects lost fat equally from the stomach, glutes, and upper back even though they only worked their abs. Eduardo, just give me leg exercises since all I want to do is lose fat from my legs and hips? In a six-month long study of women who mainly did leg exercises for approximately nine hours per week lost an average of 5.7 pounds of fat. The Journal of Applied Physiology, the periodical that published this study, reported that the distribution of fat loss was 2.9 pounds from the trunk, 2.8 pounds from the arms, and 0 from their thighs. Their weekly nine hours of leg work resulted in zero fat loss from their thighs! Ok, so you say This is what I begin to hear after I try to explain spot reduction is a myth. It continues as, that spot reduction doesnt work, but can you just give me some arm exercises to reduce the fat from my arms? This last illustration is from a study published in the Annals of Internal Medicine in 1971, where world-class tennis players were tested to see if spot reduction could help in reducing the fat from the arms. The idea behind this study was that if spot reduction worked, the players would have one arm that’s leaner than the other. Obviously, tennis players use their dominant arms forcefully everyday while doing relatively little with their non-dominant arms. Though the researchers did find the dominant arm to be bigger due to more muscle tone, there was no difference at all between arms in fat thickness. This study showed that working a certain muscle does not necessarily affect the fat deposits that may be lying above that muscle. What are your weight loss options? Your options are healthy eating and moderate to intense exercise. Going back to science, research has proven that exercise and healthy eating habits are the most important part of a weight loss and weight management program. Exercise helps to lose or control weight by using any extra calories that would have otherwise been stored a fat. For example, if you were to eat more calories than you actually use through physical activity, the extra calories would be stored as fat and you would gain weight. On the other hand, if you were to eat fewer calories than you actually use, your body would use stored calories resulting in weight loss. Of course, if your calories in are equal to the calories you use, your weight stays the same. How many calories do I need to burn in order to lose one pound of fat? In order to lose approximately one pound of fat you would have to expend about 3,500 calories in a week. One way to do this is to eat fewer calories, and burn more through exercise. If you burn about 300 calories a day and eat 200 less calories per day, you will have a 500 calorie deficit. In one week that would be 3,500 calories. My recommendation is that you keep a food journal, like the one found in the www.tartesos-fitness.com 6 Week Exercise Journal in order to start recognizing your calorie intake. How do I set up my exercise routine to lose fat? In order to lose fat, you would have to spend a minimum of one-hundred and fifty minutes exercising per week. The American College of Sports Medicine recommends at least thirty minutes of moderate to high intensity exercise at least five times per week. An example of a fitness program could be: Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday thirty minute power walk. Every Tuesday and Thursday you do a thirty minute full-body weight training program followed by a fifteen to twenty minute moderate to high intensity aerobic exercise such as power walking. Injured in an Accident? 5 Reasons Why You Don’t Need To Hire An Attorney

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Gerry Oginski You’ve just been injured in an accident. Get ready for the onslaught of mail from lawyers at home. Be prepared for those ugly billboards showing pictures of crashed cars and wreckage with victims crawling away. Beware the yellow pages ads that proclaim quick and fast settlements for your injuries. Do you need an attorney? No, and here’s why: 5 Reasons Why You Don’t Need An Attorney After You’ve Been Injured In An Accident 1. You know it all. By knowing it all you have more knowledge and experience than a New York personal injury trial lawyer. That’s good. You know what the law is and whether your injuries are serious enough to prevent you from getting thrown out of court. Knowing it all means you know how to negotiate with the insurance company. You are aware of the common tricks they use to get unsuspecting victims to settle cases, like sending a low-ball settlement check to the client with the appropriate closing papers, telling them all they have to do is sign here and the check is theirs. You must know how to find out what the insurance policy limits are, and whether there is any excess insurance available to pay for your injuries. Having all the information means you know how to say “No” to an insurance company offer and start a lawsuit on your own behalf. It also means knowing how much time you have to file a claim with the insurance company, and how much time you have before you need to start your lawsuit. 2. You know how disabling and permanent your injuries are. Doesn’t it feel good to know that you can convey how serious and permanent your injuries are? You can clearly and concisely express your frustrations and feelings to the insurance company. Just don’t expect them to shed any tears for you. 3. You know the true value of your injuries in the county you live in and don’t need a lawyer to tell you otherwise. Knowing it all means that you know your injuries are worth more than the “McDonald’s Lady” who won a large award. It means knowing that your injuries are worth more than the insurance company has ever seen before. It means knowing that in your town and in your county, the same type of injuries for the same age individual is similar or different than your own. Knowing it all means that you know where to search for information that you can use to show the insurance company that your injuries are worth more than a similar victim. It means that you know what medical records and documents the insurance company needs to confirm your injuries and permanent disability. 4. Why should you have to give part of your compensation to some lawyer you don’t even know? Why do you need to give up 1/3 of your award, when you can do it all yourself? You know that handling an accident claim and then a lawsuit is no different than reading a do-it-yourself book, similar to building a deck in your backyard. If your neighbor the lawyer can do it, so can you! Why pay someone to do it for you? Do you think they could possibly obtain more money for your injuries than you can? If you don’t think so, then by all means, don’t hire an attorney. But if you have that nagging suspicion that they just might be able to achieve a better result, then you owe it to yourself and your family to call a personal injury lawyer right away. 5. You have more experience than a New York personal injury trial lawyer and know that you can overcome any defense the insurance company throws at you. You know that with every claim and every lawsuit, the insurance company and their lawyers will fight you tooth and nail on everything from liability, to causation, to the extent of your injuries. You must know all of those defenses and how to overcome them. You must surely know of how to contact witnesses and obtain their statements, and how to use them to your benefit. Of course, you also know how to try your case and achieve success- all the while trying to support your family and recover from your injuries. Conclusion So, do you need an attorney after you’ve been in an accident? I leave that question for you to ponder. If you know it all, then you don’t need an attorney. However, if you think you might benefit from legal counsel and their experience, then don’t wait. Call an experienced injury lawyer immediately to make sure you know and understand your legal options. Good luck in your quest for justice! 10 Simple Tactics To Improve Your Business

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Leslie Sprankling These ten simple tactics are just that, simple. Each one is a nil cost or low cost ways to improve your business and together they form a formidable armory of weapons at your disposal to make your business grow. So, read, study and think about them all so that you can devise the best ways to implement them in your business. Here then are ten simple tactics to improve your business. 1. Concentrate your efforts on those people who are most likely to buy from you. If you sell only apples, dont waste your time on people who really want to buy oranges. Qualify the people who come to you (your prospects) and pre-qualify the viewers and readers of your ads so that you dont spend all day dealing with lookers and tire kickers. When you qualify the inquiries as they come in, youll be able to spend the majority of your time with people who want or need your product or service, want it now and have the ability to pay for it now. All others are just a waste of your time. 2. Get connected to your customers, at least the top 20% who may produce as much as 80% of your business. Get in touch with these ones personally and stay in touch with them regularly. Cultivate them and reward them for their loyalty to you. After all, these are the ones who provide the bulk of your income. However, do not neglect the rest of your customers. Assign members of your staff or sales force to look after them as their personal customer care officer as these ones, with proper attention have the potential to join the top 20%. 3. Follow up with all qualified prospects, not with blatant sales blurbs or pressure tactics, but do so with additional information on the product or service they inquired about, or to provide free advice, some additional benefits or solutions to their problems. You can offer a free booklet, tips etc or ways to assist in meeting their desired goals. Never, never, never give them a sales pitch without at least offering help, advice or a solution. 4. Dont take it for granted that your customers and prospects know all the benefits of doing business with you, compared with your competition. The fact is, unless you tell them, they dont know, and couldnt care less about you. Customers and prospective customers are selfish people, they want whats best for them, not you. Think about this for a moment, as a prospective customer, about to spend your dollars on something you want. Do you care about the person youre doing business with? Or do you want to know Whats in it for me? Well your customers are the same, so spell out to them all the advantages and benefits of doing business with you instead of your competitor over the road or down the street. This means telling about your great warranty or guarantee, your extended hours of business, your 24/7 home service, your lower prices, your greater range of products, sizes, colors etc., your uniqueness and whatever else puts you a step ahead of your competition. Even if you dont do anything differently, tell em what you do because they probably dont know that your competitors do it too. 5. Spend whatever time and resources are needed to determine your customers Marginal Net Worth. This is the amount, in dollars, that a typical customer is worth to you over the duration of the time he does business with you. Without this valuable information you could be handing most of your business over to your competitors. In simple terms a customers Marginal Net Worth (or LifeTime Value) is the average profit on each purchase, multiplied by the number of times in a year that he buys from you, multiplied by the number of years he stays your customer. As an example, if a customers average purchase is $100 (of which $50 is profit), if he buys 8 times a year and stays with you for 3 years, you net profit from this customers is $50 X 8 X 3 which equals $1,200.00 net profit. This is his Marginal Net Worth. See The Simple Secrets to Business Growth at http://www.better-n-chocolate.com, for detailed information on how to determine your customers MNW. 6. Follow up all inquiries promptly. In contemplating the reasons for this use empathy here by putting yourself in the place of your prospective customer. How long would you wait for a follow-up before you went somewhere else. We live in a society where instant gratification is demanded. We want it, and we want it now! So, if a customer has come to you, by phone or in person, get back to him while he is hot. The longer you leave it before you follow up, the colder he will get or, worse, the more likely it is that hell go to your competitor. Always follow up with useful information, advice or some benefit to him, but never solely with a blatant sales pitch. 7. In any transaction, there is a risk. For the customer the risks include that the item he buys from you will be defective, unsuitable, wont match his color scheme or some other reason. He needs assurance that the item will be repaired, replaced, exchanged or his money returned if need be. By reversing all those risks and taking them upon yourself you remove those risks from the customer. He will therefore be free of the normal transaction risks and will be more inclined to buy. Yes, you will get a few who may unfairly take advantage of your risk reversal, but youll get far more additional business than you will refunds. 8. In a disagreement with a customer, separate personal feelings from business relationships. Hurt feelings can be gotten over in a few hours, a damaged relationship can be financially disastrous and long lasting. Always listen politely to a complaint and act on it on the assumption that the customer is right (even if you feel he is wrong). Its much better to lose a little face, or a few dollars, if you can salvage and restore a business relationship. And remember this, the old man in the frayed sweater and dirty jeans may have enough cash in that shopping bag hes carrying to buy and sell you three times over. 9. There are only three ways to grow a business: get more customers, get your customers to buy more, and get them to buy more often. 10. Hidden Assets are items in your business that, on the surface have no fundamental value but which you can sell or exploit to raise cash. These can include:* disused or surplus materials, equipment, appliances or office furniture,* unused space in your warehouse, factory, office or store that you can rent out to a sub-tenant,* a good relationship with your customers (who can provide referrals or bring in new customers),* relationships with your suppliers (who may be willing to meet all or part of your advertising costs, or even supply you with stock on credit), * old merchandise that you have stashed away because you no longer handle those products,* your reputation in the community as a person or business to get free publicity through press or media releases, informative and advisory articles in local newspapers, magazines etc., radio and/or TV interviews,* component suppliers who may be willing to include you in their marketing at no cost to you or, if you are a component supplier, your customers may be willing to include you in their marketing. 2005 Leslie H F Sprankling. How To: Avoid-Foreclosure

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Leon Chaddock In order to avoid-foreclosure, you need to find the companies and the services that are able to provide you with high quality information. You do not need someone to come in and try to sell you yet another deal. For honest to goodness help in getting out of this debt and mess, you need high quality advice. While it is not easy, you can avoid-foreclosure. First of all, make sure that avoiding foreclosure is the right thing for you. IF you can not make the payments and you can not find a way to get around it, letting it go will ruin your credit, but until it is over it cant get any better. While this is not news you want to hear, it can be helpful to some. But, when you do have a shot, you need to take it. To avoid-foreclosure, you need many options. For example, you may want to actually call the bank and ask them if there is a way you can work with them to end the problems. Maybe they can extend your payments so that you can get caught back up. You may be able to get a loan that will cover the amount that you owe as well as any other money that you need. This can then be paid off in installments. Although hard to find, this is one method to avoid-foreclosure. You should take the time to speak with the creditors that you owe money to and see if you can work something out with them. Be honest and tell them what has happened, what you plan to do to get out of it, and see if they can help you. If it does come down to selling the house, do your best to get through it before it is too late. Chiropractic Schools

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By K. Monteith Chiropractic schools provide training and education in chiropractic health treatments. Chiropractic schools instruct students in a variety of topics related to the diagnosis and treatment of nervous and skeletal system problems. Chiropractic schools and colleges teach that interference within these systems disrupts normal body functioning and lowers the patient’s resistance to disease. Chiropractic schools take a holistic approach to the overall well-being of the patient, and a chiropractor takes into account every facet of the patient’s life, including exercise, diet, rest, environment and heredity. Chiropractic schools instruct prospective physicians to use non-surgical, natural, and drug-free health treatments, and to rely on the self-healing mechanisms of the patient’s body. Chiropractic schools recommend that students have an earned degree in the arts or sciences from an accredited college or university before entering the chiropractic educational system. Required areas of study must also include at least 90 semester hours of English, social sciences or humanities, organic and inorganic chemistry, biology, physics, and psychology. Upon completion of the chiropractic instruction, potential chiropractors must pass a four-part exam administered by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Depending upon individual state requirements, prospective chiropractors may be required to take supplemental examinations. Approximately 70 percent of chiropractors go into solo practice. While some chiropractors become instructors, others conduct research at other chiropractic schools, institutions and colleges, or practice chiropractic medicine in clinics and hospitals. According to Chiropractic Economics, self-employed chiropractors have higher earning potential than salaried chiropractors, and males earn about 25% more than females. With a degree from an accredited chiropractic schools, you can expect to earn anywhere from $90k - $139k per year. By Lorien Henson The other day I heard the exciting news that my friend, Sam a mad British film director (mad in a good way!), had his documentary film chosen to feature at several high-profile film festivals! The entire process from pre-production, filming on-location in Africa and clever editing required preparation, research, skill and cash! I realized that no matter the size of a film blockbuster, indie flick or documentary - before it even gets off the ground the film producers have to carefully analyze essentially the exact same process as an event marketing program. Go figure??? Is it really possible that event marketing producers and film producers have a common bond other than a similarity in job title? Savvy marketers around the globe are in search of exciting, memorable and unconventional ways to connect with their customers. Are you one of them? Its challenging enough to keep up-to-date with new marketing trends and then try to figure out a way to turn the idea into a reality! Stick With Me Kid and Ill Show You How To Make Your Event Shine! Here Are 5 Tips To Propel An Event Marketing Program Into The Spotlight: 1. Ill Have What Shes Having Clearly define your target audience. Why? It helps to give your typical customer a name & personality start by picking a name, then determine age, hobbies & interests, likes & dislikes and values & beliefs. A couple years ago I created a cool program that appealed to the hip and trendy 18-34 years old crowd for a national telecommunications company. Meet Dave! (my version of their typical customer) Dave is 23 years old, loves action sports and video games, must have the latest tech gadgets, loves clubbing with friends and is new to the full-time working world! 2. Rebel With(out) A Cause Understand the objectives. There must be a reason why an event marketing program is needed. i.e. increasing brand awareness, stirring sales, creating brand loyalty or increasing traffic to the store. Dave was targeted to create brand loyalty and increase brand awareness, to cut through the clutter of traditional advertising and reach Dave at a very personal level inspiring a relationship and emotional connection! If Dave had an extraordinary experience hes likely to remember the event for a long time and will tell his friends - word-of-mouth buzz is far-reaching and very valuable! 3. Of All The Gin Joints In Town And She Walks Into Mine Research locations where your target spends time away from home school, shopping malls, festivals, fitness centres, concerts, nightclubs, coffee shops and sporting events. Its essential the location is the right fit for both your brand and objectives to establish credibility. To reach Dave, I developed a list of upcoming locations where he would like to hang out (festivals, concerts and extreme sport events)! The location that made the cut was a pro wakeboarding and lifestyle festival. 4. Show Me The Money! Establish a budget or at the very least a ball-park figure. The scale and scope of the entire event marketing program depends on the budget. Put it this way. A blockbuster Hollywood film with outrageous special effects, academy award winning actors and a mind-blowing location means big bucks, moolah, hard cash.were talking MILLIONS baby! While an indie film can produce something creatively brilliant on a shoestring budget. The sky is the limit in terms of what can be done, but only if youve got the dough set aside to back the idea! 5. Go Ahead Make My Day Motivate your customer to give up some of their valuable time to learn more about your brand and to then follow through with action. Whatever it is - must be considered both relevant and valuable by your customer. Incentives that work well are product samples, contests, interactive games, and branded premiums. Everyone looooooooves free stuff, but it must be appropriate and treasured - otherwise just FORGETABOUTIT! Back To Cool Guy Dave! At the pro wakeboarding event I created the Chill Out Lounge a special themed area that enhanced the board short & bikini clad festival-goers experience. The large branded dome tent was decked out with:cooling misting fansa DJ spinning funky beatstropical plantsbillowing fabricscomfy seating Think Arabian Nights meets beachside nightclub! Friendly & attractive brand agents sporting trendy board shorts, mini-skirts and cowboy hats were handing out ice-cold branded bottled water and lip balm to thousands of parched guests (many, many Daves!). Guests were encouraged to protect themselves from the scorching sun at the branded sunscreen station and enter a contest for a chance to win a fantastic trip to another client-sponsored event! Badda Boom, Badda Bing! An event marketing program should strive to engage, educate and motivate your customers. It must be fun and stand out! The knack is putting it all together. Think of it like this: Invest in your customers and they will invest back into your brand! Unity Candles for Your Sacred Union

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Dave Poon Visualize weddings as like a jigsaw puzzle of traditions. Everyone has their own customs they bring from their family and culture. When a man and woman decide to marry, they each bring a piece of the puzzle to create a unique tradition of their own. The lighting of unity candles is one of these traditions that have become more popular within the past ten to twenty years. When referring to unity candles, there are actually three. Two thin tapered candles stand for two individuals who will unite in marriage. There is also a large pillar candle that will be lit which signifies the joining of the two individuals. Depending on the location and preference, sometimes you will have a special candle dish or holder which will house all three unity candles. Other times you will have the large candle in the middle and the other two flanking it. Individual candle holders may be used for the unity candles as well. The lighting of the unity candles has no religious connotations, but is representative of what a marriage is all about. There are no written rules on how the lighting of the unity candles should be performed. Therefore, you can create your own traditions and tailor this ritual to suit your wedding ceremony. Typically, though, the unity candles are lit right after the wedding rings are exchanged but before the bride and groom are announced as husband and wife. There are also variations on who originally lights the individual unity candles. Sometimes, the individual tapered unity candles are lit before the ceremony starts and stay lit throughout the entire process. Other times, the parents of the bride and groom step forward after the ring presentation to light the candles. The practice of the lighting of the unity candles also may have the bride and groom each lighting their own during the ritual. Then they come together and light the larger one in a symbol of unity, of two becoming one. Some debate exists about whether or not to blow out the individual tapered unity candles or leave them lit. One argument for blowing out the individual candles is that it symbolizes your forsaking the single life and committing to one another in marriage. On the flip side, leaving them lit means that while you are committed to one another in marriage, you are not forsaking your own individualism either. Now that you have an idea about the ritual of lighting the unity candles, did you realize that are so many to choose from too? The unity candles are made in a variety of styles, shapes and sizes. Some are simple and unadorned. Others are elaborate and showy, decorated in a style suited to match your wedding dcor. These unity candles are customizable too. You can make them personal by having your wedding date printed on it along with your names. A special quote or short poem might be appropriate to convey your sentiments about marriage. Marriage is the biggest commitment a person makes. Lighting of the unity candles as part of your wedding ceremony makes a big impact. Not only are you reciting vows before your loved ones, but you are also symbolizing your union in a very visual way. So what do you do with the unity candles once the ceremony is over? Keep them to light for special occasions like your anniversary or the birth of a new child. You will be able to enjoy your unity candles for years to come. Dave Poon is the owner of Go Wedding Gifts.
