Although there are many ways that this can be done, it should only be a part of the arsenal used. So how much should be spent? Spending really depends on how much money is earned from a consulting gig. If a typical engagement brings $5,000 and it takes 2 to 3 weeks to gain the contract, then spending over $500 would be belt tightening. However, if your marketing plan is to use that money for being in the right place at the right time, then it will be well spend and likely get you another project to work on. As a consultant you will spend time on researching where to go in order to make sure you are in the right place at the right time. The $500 will be used for entrance to the event, buying food or drink for your target client, follow-up materials for the contacts you make, and subsequent travel, materials, and phone calls. Research, however, is the key to making this expenditure fruitful. Without the research, you could attend many events and never get anywhere or close to obtaining a contract. So what needs to happen when doing research? First, make sure you know the profile of the ideal client. That means every detail that is relevant to obtaining the contract. Make notes on the size of the organization, the typical entry point that is successful for you, the size of the budget they need to have for your services, the types of problems that are normal for this type of company, who is responsible for solving the problem, who makes the decisions, who approves the funding, how the process for payment works, how long it takes to become a vendor, where you can run into the ideal contact, plus anything else that ties into your expertise. Second, create a process for getting your research completed. This means, decide where you will get the information newspapers, Dun & Bradstreet, Google, and any other place that will give you good accurate information. Also find out if anyone you know has a contact within that organization. This can be a good starting point for up-to-date projects. Also, when scanning newspapers or online sources, look to see what jobs they are trying to fill. This sometimes gives you a good clue as to new projects. Last, armed with the research, you can begin to execute your marketing plan with knowledge rather than just hope. Call the right people, or at least attend an event where you can meet the ideal contact. Start the action steps from the plan and if you need help, hire someone or use a professional. The money will be well spent. Just remember that great things happen one step at a time, do not put all your efforts into one company, do at least ten at a time. If you connect with only one or two people a day then you will have contacted 40 each month for a total of 480 for the year. Out of that many connections, at least 5% (24) will become a project as long as the contacts are the ones that need the services you are offering. Do not take anyone for granted - each person out there is special in some way to someone . And the trick is finding that someone. It might be tough at the start - I know, it was for me trying to describe the perfect person that I was looking for. But I know when I filled out all my profile details about myself that I was as honest and truthful as I could be, and well magic does happen! Keep track with a database. Once you’ve gathered the information you need, put it into a contact database where you can easily access the info and create mailing labels. Include additional information such as birthdays, anniversaries, special interests and needs. A bed and breakfast owner uses upcoming anniversaries as an opportunity to send a greeting card and an invitation to come back to the inn to celebrate. 5. Brainstorm ideas for using your list. What goes into the making of a gift basket? Gift baskets are given for all kinds of occasions. They are sent on holidays, birthdays, or as an apology. A gift basket may be a way of saying thank you to certain people in your life such as a great secretary or to a helpful mentor. Gift baskets are sent to mark special occasions such as the birth of a new baby or just because you want to send one. In the traditional sense, a gift basket is a basket that has been filled with small presents for the receiver. Whoever recieves it gets several gifts inside one which increases the delight. These can range from snacks and food products to mementos to other useful items such as teacups. The container, your budget and your imagination are the only limits to what can be included in gift baskets. These days they can come in all kinds of containers including the traditional wicker basket. You may find baskets that are made from grapevines or rope. The container could be a child’s bucket with shovel, a mini rocking chair, a mug, or a dish drainer filled with goodies to celebrate a new home. By Trevor Kugler p>In my estimation, many anglers overlook some very simple things that effect their fish catching ability. Like many things in life, it’s often the most obvious things that get overlooked, and in most cases these obvious things have a very big impact on our lives, and for the purposes of this article, our fishing. These 5 techniques are going to be focused on the river or stream angler who spends much oh their time wading in the water, trying to catch fish. So if you’re a Largemouth Bass angler who fishes from a $20,000 bass boat, these tips probably won’t mean much to you. In any case, here are the tips and you can do with them what you will: 1) Size Matters - The size of your line matters. In river and stream situations fish are usually much more wary than in a muddy lake with a lot of boat traffic. In most cases the water is very clear as well. This means that the fish are much more likely to see your line. I personally use four pound test, which is all but invisible to the fish. I’ve had the direct experience of using six pound test and getting no bites. Then switching to four pound test and catching fish one after another. 2) Your Clothes Matter - The color of your clothing matters. You wan t to avoid wearing loud colors that will make it easier for the fish to see you. Remember, if the fish can see you, they normally won’t bite (especially in clear water mountain rivers). Wear darker more drab colors if at all possible. 3) Avoid Loud Noises - I know, as anglers we are all aware of the “be quiet” rule while fishing, but it’s even more pronounced on river and stream situations. Especially on rivers and streams that don’t receive much fishing pressure. The biggest thing to avoid as far as noise goes on rivers and streams are rocks banging together underwater. Remember this while wading from here to there. 4) Present Bait Naturally - You want to present your bait as naturally as possible. You want your bait to look like it would without hooks in it. The best way I know to accomplish this is by using gang hooks. The bottom line is for your bait to look as natural as possible. 5) Clean Your Hands - Fish have a very sensitive sense of smell and can smell your scent on your bait. This is a big reason people use “attractors” on their baits. I don’t think these things attract fish as much as they cover the scent of humans! Using a hand sanitizer is a good idea or just grabbing a handful of grass and rubbing it in your hands has always worked well for me. Start employing any or all of these five techniques and you will start catching more fish; it’s as simple as that. Catching fish doesn’t have to be difficult, especially if we’re reminded of the basics from time to time.
