Need a Wedding Gift for a Special Couple? Try a Signature Platter

Monday, May 26th, 2008

By Blake Kritzberg If you need a creative gift idea for the next wedding or bridal shower on your calendar, why not try a signature platter? Signature platters come in a variety of shapes, such as round, oval or heart-shaped. Some are plain, and some are embellished with a variety of underlying designs, such as wedding cakes, happy couples, wedding rings, and romantic sayings. Of course, you can also order them pre-personalized with the couple’s own names. Sometimes you can even get them engraved. What They Are, Exactly A signature platter (or plate) is a ceramic plate that functions as a guestbook. It comes as a kit, with a porcelain pen that guests can use to write their name and possibly a short, warm message for the wedding couple. If a mistake happens, you can just wipe it off and start again! Once everyone’s signed, someone the couple or the shower host bakes the platter in the oven for about half an hour. When it’s finished, you have a food-safe, permanent memento you can actually use on a daily basis — and yes, in most cases it’s microwave and dishwasher safe too. (Keep in mind, though, that some manufacturers recommend you avoid re-baking the platter.) Not only are signature platters wonderful at getting your favorite couple’s wedding memories out of the closet and into their daily lives, they fit most budgets as well. A small plate suitable for bridal shower typically starts at around $40, and larger platters range from about $50 to $75. Variations on a Theme Virtually every couple knows an artist, and vice versa. If you have a great artistic skills, why not hog the whole signature platter to yourself and create something absolutely unique for a couple you love? Perhaps you can print their names, or a family saying, or a favorite philosophy (for example — a phrase they chose to engrave inside their wedding rings!) around the rim of the plate. All you need to round out the rest is a selection of colored porcelain markers. Of course, some people just need to do things a little differently. If you’re flush with cash and want to “knock it up a notch,” gift your couple with the Fifth Avenue version of the signature platter: the silver signature platter. In this version, guests sign a template instead of the platter itself. You mail the template off to the retailer, and they engrave each signature into … you guessed it, a silver platter. How to Get Rid of Gnats

Saturday, May 17th, 2008

By Emma Drosy Theyre annoying, theyre irritating, and they hang around the house all day long just to bother you. No, its not your in-laws its those pesky, annoying gnats that get inside your home and seem impossible to shake. Many people want to know how to get rid of gnats, because sometimes they seem like an unshakable problem. If you dont know how to get rid of gnats, you definitely arent alone. Gnats are very small and hard to catch, hard to shoo out of the house, and multiply like crazy. In fact, most people dont know how to get rid of gnats. Gnats are attracted to easily-accessible sources of food, which many people are aware of, but they are also attracted to warm, moist places. This means that not only your garbage cans (change them regularly if youre having a gnat problem of any kind), but also your house plants might be singing a siren song of welcome to gnats. Inside your home, with its comfortable climate and no possibilities of rain, gnats are incredibly attracted to the small plants that you tend to. Avoid over-watering your plants, and be sure your plants have a way to drain excess water. Put all foodstuffs away in air-tight containers, like your refrigerator, and be sure not to let any food products sit around in the open. This, and frequently changing your garbage cans, will help reduce a gnat infestation. Take care of your plants properly and keep foods sealed, and you wont have to worry about a gnat problem. But if you need to know to get rid of gnats, then theyre already a part of your household. Once you have gnats, they can seem impossible to shake. You may need to resort to chemical bug bombs or traps to kill the last of the gnats once they have found the inside of your home. When it comes to gnats, prevention is the key. Once you know how to properly prevent a gnat infestation, you wont have to worry about how to get rid of gnats. But once they find their way into your home, even a thorough cleaning and getting rid of all the trash may not drive them out. You may need to resort to other means. One good way to lure all the gnats to one place is to leave a tray of partially-rotten, juicy fruit sitting out. Theyll be drawn to the fruit, and then they will all be in one place so that you can dispose of them, perhaps with chemical agents. Do you Have A Gnat Problem? Get Rid of Gnats for Good! Catching Bass In Cold Water

Saturday, May 3rd, 2008

By Charles White When I talk cold water, I am talking about water 50 degress or less. The bass don’t quit eating at this temperature but one thing is for sure, they slow down. As the water temps fall so is the chance that a bass will chase a bait for a meal. When the water temperature gets in the 40’s, your bait has to be right in front of the bass and they have to almost be forced fed just to get them to take the bait. This is when you might want to put those big lures away and offer them something small. So, what kind of lure are you going to use? How about small hair jigs and soft plastic grubs? These imitate cold water pray in cold water. Deer hair is hollow and allows the jig to fall slower. These do good in the rocks and bluffs where water is at least 10 feet deep. If the water is less than 50 degrees try these jigs with a little piece of pork. Here’s the deal, when fishing these lures in cold water, the bass aren’t going to chase it. So cast, let it drop and bring it along the bottom very slowly for 10-12 feet then reel it in for another cast. The pick-up of the little lure will probably be subtle. Everyone seems to like dark colored jigs but if the water is clear or the bass’ main food is shad then try a white hair jig. If the bass are feeding on crayfish mainly in the summer then try a brown or drab green color in cold water. Also, remember this, rocks radiate the sun warmth. Fishing rocks with these jigs can be deadly. Some other good material to use for jigs is badger, rabbit, coyote and squirrel hair. Light to medium light rods are good for fishing jigs and grubs. Line 4-6 pounds seem to be the thing but if fishing a lock of rocks then you can go to 10 pound test line. Just remember to fish slow, don’t think the bass are going to chase your bait very far, if at all and leave the bait in front of them longer than you normally would. Try fishing with hair jigs and small grubs, it may just surprise you. Good Fishing To You. Charles E. White has fished 50 years for bass from California to Florida. In his lifetime, it is estimated that he has caught over 6,000 bass. His biggest bass is a 12 pound 14 ounce that hangs on his wall in his office. His tips and techniques have helped many people who have never fished for bass before become successful anglers. He also has fished with the Pros in Florida. His website is at:http://www.bassfishingweekly.com/track/tracker.cgi?freecontent Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Charles_White http://EzineArticles.com/?Catching-Bass-In-Cold-Water&id=119641 pay day loans with no tele check no teletrack payday loans phoenix sucure personal loans payday lenders in new mexico

Happy Endings - Your Wedding Cake

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

By Jean Neuhart When you think of wedding receptions, what is the one thing that they all have? A stately mountain of snowy frosting and royal icing blossoms, (from The Perfect Wedding Cake by Kate Manchester), aka the wedding cake! Not bad for a dessert which has its roots clear back to the Roman Empire. But back then, there was no beautifully decorated, sweet confection. Instead, a loaf of barley bread was broken over the brides head to symbolize her fertility. Can you imagine picking crumbs out of your hair? As the barley bread evolved into todays wedding cake, the symbolism of the cake and the cake cutting ceremony evolved into your first joint act as a married couple, your commitment to provide for each other, and the sweet life you will share together. Your wedding cake should taste absolutely wonderful, however, it is not just dessert. Your wedding cake will be an integral part of the reception decor, so place it in a strategic location where all of your guests can easily see it. How about in the center of the dance floor? It can be removed after the cake cutting ceremony - table and all - so you have room for your first dance as husband and wife. Just be sure that someone carefully cleans up any stray icing that may hit the floor which can be very slippery and dangerous. Or how about placing your wedding cake in a corner with pin lights or a small spotlight highlighting its glory? The Statue of Liberty has its pedestal, a queen has her throne, the cake table needs to be worthy to hold such a beautiful creation. Like a beautiful frame that surrounds a lovely painting, the cake table should be decorated to complement the wonderful confection that it holds. Decorating the cake table neednt be time consuming nor expensive. You may already have something appropriate in your closet or on the dining room table. A lace tablecloth would be lovely draped across the cake table. A length of tulle loosely billowed on the top of the table gives the impression of your cake floating on clouds. Or, swag the table with tulle, organza, lame, or garlands of greenery and flowers. If your motto is Lives too short, eat dessert first, then you may want to go all out with your desserts. Have a dessert bar with trays of different scrumptious delicacies iced cookies, brownies, mini bite-sized cheesecakes with your wedding cake as the centerpiece. And speaking of centerpieces, if one large cake to feed hundreds of people isnt your thing, how about a small (only big enough for two) cake which you and your new spouse get to cut and feed each other, and in place of the more traditional floral or candle centerpieces for each guest table, have a single tiered cake that serves 8-10 people.
